Katie Anne, author

Hello, darlings

I am Katie Anne—writer, intuitive, self-healer, teacher.

It can be tricky to weave together all the threads of ourselves into a clear story, but here is mine…

The Writer

The first thing I can ever remember declaring about myself is that I was a writer. I was age eight and had just written my first poem (about macaroni and cheese, and growing-up dreams). And at the bottom of the poem, I'd scrawled, in glittery, silver ink, I am a writer.

And so I was. And continue to be.

All through a painful childhood rife with illness and trauma, and through the many difficult seasons ever-after, writing was my refuge. The thing that carried me through. My saving grace.

Maybe I couldn't poof away my troubles, but always could I pick up my pen; always could I write myself back together again.

The Healer

But then, to name the first thing I ever was as "writer," is not entirely true… Even before that, quietly, unknowingly, I think I was a healer.

Even as a little kid, an itty-bitty, I was incredibly intuitive and sensitive. I could see where people were in pain & instinctively, I knew how to help. I knew what to say, or energetically, how to ease their suffering. I just knew this stuff somehow.

But I pushed it down.

Getting Lost

As I grew up, while my writer-self stayed with me, I lost track of those other parts of myself — my intuitive, healer-y, spiritual side. I hid all that away.

Until one very important event came to wake me from my soul slumber.

I stopped sleeping.

Like, at all.

The Insomniac

For days at a time, for weeks in a row, for years of my life, I couldn't sleep. And everything I tried to fix my sleep — all the best sleep advice offered out there in Internet Land — none of it worked. I still friggin couldn't sleep.

And so, grumbling and exhausted, I said forget it to all the "usual" sleep tips and set out on a journey to find my own solutions.

And you want to know the secret which ultimately helped me heal my three-decades' worth of sleep troubles (because, yes, they are healed now)…

The Secret

Turns out, our sleep troubles are really a messenger — an unapologetic (and occasionally quite annoying but always benevolent somehow) arrow pointing us to wherever we have fallen out of alignment with ourselves.

That's why insomnia comes to us. To wake us up (literally) to wherever we have fallen out of balance, so that we might not only heal these imbalances and therefore get back to sleep — but so that we can come back into wholeness and soulful connection with our truest selves.

This is why insomnia comes & this is why it came to me. To remind me of my lost parts. To help me unify the myriad threads of myself and start showing up in my life as the me I truly am — the writer, the intuitive, the healer, the super spiritual mega-nerd.

Here, I am showing up as all of it.

My Hope

This is part of why I've come to this life. To write. To heal. And to empower others to heal too, especially in the ways I used to struggle, through the power and portal of my pen on the page.

For what I learned as a kid, as an itty-bitty all that time ago, is still true.

Maybe I can't poof away all our troubles (not yours, not mine), but always can I pick up my pen; always can I share the wisdom I've learned, or the poem or the joke or the story I've written, which has helped me on my own life path, in the hopes that it might help you on yours too.

Thank you for being here with me,

Xoxo,

Katie Anne
